Wisp Mountain Resort History

Wisp Mountain Resort is a popular ski and golf resort located in the town of McHenry, Maryland. The resort was founded in 1955 by Helmuth Heise, who initially operated a single ski slope on the mountain. Over the years, the resort expanded to include more slopes and amenities, becoming a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts.

In 1982, Wisp was purchased by DC-based developer David H. Sharpe, who invested heavily in the resort, adding new slopes, lifts, and amenities. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, Wisp also offers snow tubing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing during the winter months.

In the summer, the resort transforms into a golf and outdoor recreation destination. Wisp's championship golf course offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and lake, and the resort also offers a wide range of outdoor activities such as ziplining, mountain biking, hiking, and kayaking.

In recent years, Wisp has continued to expand and improve its offerings, including the addition of a new lift and several new slopes. The resort has also invested in snowmaking technology, ensuring a reliable base of snow even in warmer weather.

Overall, Wisp Mountain Resort is a popular destination for both winter and summer outdoor activities, offering a range of options for visitors of all ages and skill levels.
